WHL breakout trades the break of support and restistance levels. In contrast to typical S/R breakout EAs that have a profit target of a few pips, WHL breakout has a very large target of 68 pips against 50 pips stop loss. This makes the EA less susceptible to the risk of slow execution compared to breakout scalpers.
There is a live signal available. But due to low trade frequency, it is hard to judge (and not possible to add as a widget).
Since the EURUSD backtest looks extremely good, we also tested how the EA performs when the tick data is shifted by 28 years. We explain at the end of our blog post why such a shift is a useful way to analyze an EA further. Since it is the exact same tick data, just artificially shifted by 28, it should in theory give the same results. You can see that this is not the case, so there seems to be some component of the trade logic that depends on the exact dates. As the EA is not using a news filter, the reason is not clear. In the shifted data the EA is still profitable, but with a worse profit factor and higher drawdown.
We also tested two non-recommended pairs, GBPUSD and USDJPY. The performance is not convincing with low profit factor and high drawdown. However, since the EA is not optimized for those pairs, the fact that they are profitable at all is a good sign.
Our opinion
In theory, a strategy with a high average profit is advantageous. However, caution is required due to inconsistent results after shifting the data and the short live signal period.Fixed lot size backtests
